Joao Victor of Lewiston High School winning the Maine Poetry Out Loud competition— from The Kennebec Journal

There are times when I stand
American proud. Ready to say
out loud. I am
American. And yes, we are
great, again and still.

Who are asylum seekers?
What do they seek?
What do they offer?
New voices, new strength.

This is how spring begins.
This is how we are all renewed.
