The lesson of the Holocaust was not only never to forget but not to be silent. Elie Wiesel put it in broader terms when he said, “Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” We never get over it. We must remember and respond otherwise the silence screams that it is not only OK but right to go down that path again, to chant the same slogans, to target anew, and flush with hate and righteousness, the horror begins anew.
