Stone wall- Valdemorillo- photo by author

like a fieldstone wall
a poem emerges
first, as stone heaved by frost from the field
collected
hauled by hand, by barrow, by rocksled
to a daunting, sprawling heap
left to face the rain and wind
scoured, cleansed, waiting
until the reaching hand finds them
and places them just so
