I smiled when I read JD’s response here. Lemmings, I thought. Then I thought of bandwagons and how quickly crowded they become. Then I thought of the tag games at recess, the ones where it is almost impossible to tell who is it, just a random screaming mass chasing and being chased until all are out of breath. The games where the kids come to tell me who isn’t playing by the rules and after 30 minutes I still have no clear idea of what those rules and the only clear point is everyone has a different operating assumption. then I thought of politics but quickly thought, Ick, don’t go there. Then I thought I strayed very far from your point which is such a good one. I remembered the magpie in the trash yesterday afternoon, picking out the shiny foil packets, nothing it could eat but the shine was irresistible.
