I know some people who lost their sense of smell during covid. It really impacted them. Food just wasn't the same any more. I lost my sense of smell for a few months when I was 16 and had mono. People thought I was making it up. It was hard to explain and tests didn't show anything. It came back and I am glad, smell is such powerful sense for bringing back memories, for food, for those random but powerful moments when (for me) a woman walks by and her scent lingers after her .
