I attended the COP here in Madrid with a group of students who did presentations. It was far from hopeful then but being there with young people was cool, until you considered the cruelty of the irony. They thought they were speaking up for their future but the real deals happened elsewhere. Since then the irony has accumulated and thickened and this harsh crust makes us less able, less agile, less inclined towards any movement that matters. At some point the compass will point to anger at all that was lost and stolen and betrayed, bitterness and anger and with them rage because so many were so unwilling to give up anything for those who will come later.
