As an educator and a special education teacher for many years (in rural Maine and South Africa) i can’t agree more. We either choose to live in a society/community where human life is valued and provided for, or we live in a truly disposable society where value is cynically ascribed and those and that which doesn’t add up is cast aside. It is a stark choice and one that is being made for us on many levels. It is a choice we must stand up and declare for ourselves and all those who come after us. It is a sad time, sad in the grand tragic sense of sad. When the protagonist feels all is slipping from his/her grasp, knows it, and yet lets it all go anyway.
